文学と科学の関係を歴史と作品に探る研究領域の入門的配慮でつくられた本。『文体百般』（新潮社、2014年刊行予定）を書く際にもお世話になり、目下執筆中の『夏目漱石『文学論』を読む（仮）』（水声社、刊行予定）でも大変お世話になっております。章末ごとの文献案内は、関連して読むべき文献をコメントつきで教えてくれるので、これも大助かりです。登場する未読の本を端から読もうと画策中。

文学も科学も、言葉を使ってなにかを記述しているという観点から見れば、言語使用のヴァリエーションということになるわけですが、それでは両者はどう同じで違うのかということをきちんと確認するには、それなりの（知的な）馬力が必要となります（なにしろ両方見る必要がありますゆえに）。こうした研究がいっそう進んで、誰もが手軽に読んで知ることができるような本が現れるのを夢見ております。
